With multiple epic viewpoints of Kalalau Valley, Kauai’s Pihea Trail is one of the most beautiful on the island. The trail begins at the Puu o Kila Lookout and follows the rim of the canyon overlooking the valley. The trail is wide and easy, at least at first, but becomes somewhat more difficult the farther you go. The trail is often wet and slippery. So go as far as you feel comfortable. Many visitors to the lookout walk at least part of the way down the trail. The trail also offers views of the interior of Kauai. Use caution when near the edges as the vegetation can mask dangerous drop-offs.
We were lucky on our latest visit. The valley is often covered in fog (but the fog is beautiful also).
The Pihea Trail links up with the Alakai Swamp Trail.
